Alachua County
Alachua County has opened three emergency shelters in response to Hurricane Milton, including two general population/pet-friendly shelters and one special needs shelter. We encourage residents impacted by the storm to seek alternative housing with friends, family, or short-term rentals. Shelters are intended as a last resort.
Alachua County does not expect a storm impact today. There is no need for local residents to shelter today. The county is opening shelters today to accommodate our neighbors from the south who are evacuating.
General Population/Pet-Friendly Shelters:
- Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose Center 1028 NE 14th St., Gainesville
- Easton-Newberry Sports Complex 24880 NW 16th Ave., Newberry
Please note that general population shelters do not provide cots or beds. Residents are advised to bring their own bedding and essential supplies, including:
- Special dietary foods, baby food, diapers, and other child necessities
- Prescription medications (with a small cooler for refrigeration if needed)Spare clothing, personal hygiene items, and spare eyeglasses or contacts
Residents with pets should bring:
- Basic pet supplies (collars, leashes, crates, carriers, towels, blankets, medications, food)Veterinary records indicating vaccinations (animals without such records will be vaccinated upon intake)Alachua County Animal Resources will have supplemental supplies on hand.
- For everyone’s safety, animals must remain properly restrained throughout their stay.
Special Needs Shelter:
- Alachua County Senior Recreation Center 5701 NW 34th Blvd., Gainesville
Special needs shelters will provide one cot per patient, though we cannot guarantee cots for caregivers. Residents should bring their own bedding, prescription medications, dietary foods, spare clothing, personal care items, and identification. For transportation assistance to the special needs shelter, please call 352-955-2575.
Free Uber Rides to Shelters:
Alachua County has partnered with Uber to provide free rides to and from shelters, ensuring no resident is left behind due to transportation challenges. To access this service:
- Open the Uber app

Baker County
The County and the City of Macclenny will be distributing sandbags to citizens of Baker County on Tuesday, October 8th from 8am until 5 pm. There is a limit of six (6) bags per household. The bags can be picked up at the City Yard located on 764 Hartline Drive in Macclenny.
Hamilton County

The following locations will open at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 8, 2024, as emergency shelters in preparation for Hurricane Milton. Those seeking shelter should bring their own medications, food, and other essentials. Pet owners seeking shelter for animals should bring their own pet supplies, including crates.

Suwannee County
The local FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) located at Hale Park, 215 Duval Street NE, Live Oak, FL 32064, will be closed until further notice. Per FEMA, the center will remain closed until Milton passes and the assessments are completed.

Please remember that these shelters are designed as a last resort and will provide minimum levels of comfort and provisions. If you plan to stay in one of these shelters, bring bedding, snacks, medications, and any items of comfort you may need.
These school-based shelters will close as soon as weather conditions permit, and the remaining occupants will be relocated to a recovery shelter located at the Suwannee County Coliseum, 1302 11th Street, Live Oak, FL 32064.

- This location will open Wednesday, October 2, at 1pm ET. The location is open 10am-6pm Monday through Friday, and 10am-5pm on Saturday.
Baker
- The BCSO Division of Emergency Management in coordination with FEMA is opening a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Baker County Fire Station 30 located at 19145 CR 125 Glen St. Mary, Florida. This DRC will be open Monday 1 pm - 8 pm and, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am- 8 pm each day.
Bradford

Columbia
