Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we witnessed firsthand the breakdown in our supply chains when federal, state, and local entities had to compete with one another for simple personal protective equipment. It was a terrifying glimpse into a future situation that has the potential to be mimicked on a larger, more dangerous scale.

Two months ago, I gave an impassioned speech on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. If you didn’t catch it, it was about H.R. 1280, the “George Floyd Justice In Policing Act,” a bill that passed the House largely along party lines with a final vote of 220 in favor and 212 opposed. This bill — which faces a steep uphill climb in the Senate — would criminalize chokeholds, ban no-knock warrants and overrule “qualified immunity,” among other provisions.

Tuesday, April 13 marked the first 100 days in office for me and my team in Washington, D.C., and Florida's Third Congressional District. A few months ago, I shared updates on our work, and I look forward to continuing this important practice to keep you apprised of everything on Capitol Hill and right here at home.

For decades, Democrats in our country have attempted to marginalize Republican women who dare support conservative policies and candidates, all to pass their radical left-wing policies. We have long known these smears are part and parcel of left-wing politicking, but recent events at our southern border have shed new light on this dangerous hypocrisy of the modern American left.

There is no greater responsibility for members of Congress than to safeguard the right to life for all Americans, particularly the most vulnerable. That’s why House Republican leaders are pushing for a vote on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This bill would make the difference between life and death for countless children — if Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and pro-abortion House Democrats will stop blocking it.

The manatee is a cherished symbol of Florida’s environmental richness. As the state’s official marine mammal, these creatures are living testaments to the importance of preserving Florida’s waterways. It was with this symbolism in mind that Floridians were rightfully horrified by reports of mass manatee deaths in the Indian River Lagoon. Experts scrambled to explain what happened. One of the likely culprits? Reduced food availability as a result of runoff and algal blooms.

Growing up on a cattle ranch, I witnessed the valuable role agriculture plays in supporting and feeding the people of our nation.
This past year, the COVID-19 pandemic underscored just how critical a safe, domestic supply of food is to our survival. When the global food trade halted, businesses and supermarkets experienced shortages. But Florida agriculture remained hard at work growing, harvesting, and feeding our population.

Last week, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act into law. The bill, comprised of $1.9 trillion in the name of “COVID relief,” received no support from Republicans in the House or Senate, and it’s not hard to see why.

From the moment we arrived in Congress this January, the Left has been trying to take away members’ constitutional rights. And if Democrats are doing this in Congress, just imagine what they want to do to everyday people.

Florida's Third Congressional District is the best congressional district in the country. This isn't something I write just for our hometown newspaper, but something I say in virtual meetings with constituents, with fellow lawmakers, on the floor of the House of Representatives and with all I'm lucky enough to encounter in our district and on Capitol Hill.
