Congresswoman Kat Cammack Issues Statement On Unanimous Passage Of H.R. 267 In House Agriculture Committee

July 27, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Cammack applauded the unanimous passage of H.R. 267, the Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program Plus (WHIP+) Reauthorization Act. The bill makes important updates to the administration of the program and causes of loss to cover sugar and dairy cooperative processors; smoke-tainted wine grapes due to wildfires; losses from high winds, derechos, excessive heat, and freezes.

The committee also incorporated changes to the bill's language to ensure all Florida and Louisiana cane farmers are covered by the program.

Additionally, the bill makes changes to the payment limit requirements to better reflect the losses experienced by high-value or specialty crops, ensuring relief goes directly toward owners actively engaged in these operations.

"I'm proud to support H.R. 267 and am pleased my colleagues unanimously passed the bill in the House Agriculture Committee to support improvements long sought by Florida farmers. The bill expands relief eligibility to some of the agricultural industries hit hardest by natural disasters, including our North Central Florida dairy farmers," said Cammack. "I'm encouraged by the bipartisan effort in moving this bill through committee and look forward to the benefits it will bring to Florida's producers when enacted."
