June 4, 2021

JACKSONVILLE, FL — Today, Congresswoman Kat Cammack (R-FL-03) joined officials at JAXPORT for a tour of the cargo and cruise facilities, shipping operations and harbor deepening project.

Cammack met with leadership at JAXPORT before speaking with members of the media about her visit and its importance to her role on the House Homeland Security Committee. The congresswoman also got an exclusive look at the port's harbor deepening project, meant to attract larger ships and more commercial opportunities to the region.

"I want to thank the team at JAXPORT for having me during today's visit. Not only did my team and I learn so much about the critical operations happening here every day, but we got to see firsthand the hard work that goes into keeping a large port like this one running smoothly," said Cammack. "The team took me up in one of the cranes to see the operation up close. Items you have in your homes, that you pick up at the store—those things are coming through this port every day."

Cammack rode in one of the cargo cranes at Blount Island, learning with crane operators about their daily tasks and the safety procedures in place.

"I posted a Facebook Live showing all of the incredible work the team at JAXPORT does. I hope the viewers aren't afraid of heights! We were way up there," Cammack remarked.
