Ranking Member Cammack Issues Statement On Severe Weather Across Our Nation

February 16, 2021

GAINESVILLE, FL – Congresswoman Kat Cammack, Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response & Recovery, issued the following statement on the recent severe weather that has impacted the United States.

“This week, we’ve witnessed extreme weather events nationwide and I have been in touch with my colleagues from Florida and across the country. I am coordinating with local, state, and federal emergency agencies as they monitor the situation and provide necessary resources in response to these storms. We Floridians know all about severe weather and we pride ourselves in taking the proper precautions to stay safe. I encourage everyone to check on their family, neighbors, and those less fortunate as we follow local and state emergency guidance.

“As Lead Republican on the Homeland Security Subcommittee that oversees FEMA, I will continue to do all I can to ensure proper coordination following severe storms and other natural disasters. At this time our focus is on response and recovery.

“The storms across our nation have also shown us the importance of a reliable power grid, especially when we see millions of Americans without electricity in the dead of winter. Domestic energy production is critical in solving this problem. The Biden administration’s energy policy—the halting of the Keystone pipeline, as a primary example—will cripple our economy, hemorrhaging jobs and subjecting millions to the weather’s whims. We must shore up our domestic energy production, not just for natural disasters, but for our national security. Americans’ lives depend on it.”
