Rep. Kat Cammack Applauds, Votes To Support Parents Bill Of Rights' House Passage

March 24, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Congresswoman Kat Cammack voted in support of H.R. 5, the Parents Bill of Rights, which codifies parents' rights to have a voice in their children's education. The legislation, introduced by Rep. Julia Letlow (R-LA-05), requires public school districts to provide parents access to curricula for students, as well as reading lists and materials available in school libraries.

The Parents Bill of Rights contains five key pillars that safeguard parents' rights:

  • The right to know what’s being taught in schools and to see reading material;
  • The right to be heard;
  • The right to see school budget and spending;
  • The right to protect their child’s privacy; and
  • The right to be updated on any violent activity at school.

"The Parents Bill of Rights is a win for every mom, every dad, and every student in America because at its core, it returns the power back to the people," said Congresswoman Cammack. "There's no question that our public school systems around the country, much like our government, need a check when they've abused their power. This bill accomplishes just that by giving parents a vital hand in the educational process and the values being taught to our children by these institutions. The passage of H.R. 5 further proves that Republicans are consistently delivering on our Commitment to America, and I'm proud to have voted in support of this key legislation."
