GAINESVILLE, FL — Friday, U.S. Reps. Kat Cammack (FL-03), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25), Scott Franklin (FL-18), and Darren Soto (FL-09) introduced the Restore Agricultural Investment, Stability and Expansion (RAISE) Act of 2023, which would provide the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) with the standing authority to help American farmers and growers recover after natural disasters by issuing block grants.

A recent report by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) labeled Moms for Liberty, a Florida-based group founded by mothers seeking to reassert the role of parents in their kids’ education, as an anti-government “extremist group.”
An SPLC director previously met with the Biden Administration’s National Security Council counterterrorism director John Picarelli, raising concerns that the White House encouraged or was involved in the SPLC targeting Moms for Liberty.

GAINESVILLE, FL – Today, Congresswoman Kat Cammack (FL-03) announced Alachua Fire Rescue's (ACFR) 'Assistance To Firefighters' Grant (AFG) award from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The department will receive $570,954.54 to improve its operations and safety, including using the grant for new protective equipment.
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant is one of three grant programs administered by DHS and FEMA to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and related hazards.

The legislation aims to ensure that basic safety net programs for producers are readily available to full-time farmers to get back on their feet following natural disasters.

This bill reasserts Congress's legislative authority and prevent excessive overreach by the executive branch in the federal rulemaking process. It would require every new "major rule" proposed by federal agencies to be approved by both the House and Senate before going into effect. The bill would also preserve Congress's authority to disapprove of a "nonmajor rule" through a joint resolution.
